Douglas Fir extension
Lanivet - Bodmin

Project features:
This is an exciting extension to an existing barn conversion. The client wanted to add a ground floor extension sunroom with a new first floor extension above. The dining room and lounge would then be relocated on the first floor. With a glass balcony the client would maximise the views across the valley towards Lanhydrock Golf club.

Worked closely with the building contractor - Adrian Nicholls builders - Goonhavern, to ensure the project ran smoothly and on schedule.

A large cranked steel was craned into place to support the proposed vaulted cut roof section. A two storey steel portal frame was fabricated and welded on site by Celtic Connections Steel fabricators of Bodmin. This allowed the all glass and Douglas Fir sunroom to be supported. A cantilevered balcony was also constructed and concealed within the floor zone.  This gave the impression that the glass balcony was ‘floating’ against the building.

The new space generated within the first floor area gave the client a clean twin vaulted rood section with no visible supports. A false timber beam was fabricated within the roof section from Douglas Fir to give the internal roof space a rustic fell, in keeping with the original barn structure.

The external was clad with Douglas Fir, and all the widows were hand made, also in Douglas Fir.
